Directing Kobie Dee’s 'Basics' music video, we used a narrative-driven approach to depict his journey through three visually distinct environments, each representing different stages of his life. The video combined emotional storytelling with contrasting cinematic styles to capture Kobie’s growth and authenticity in a way that felt raw and real.
Brief
KD wanted the music video to reflect three different stages of his life. Our brief was to create a visual narrative that could break down his journey into three stylistically unique chapters, each offering a different emotional tone—from nostalgic black-and-white shots to modern, urban settings.
Process
We carefully crafted three contrasting environments, each with its own aesthetic. The first was black-and-white to evoke the past, followed by an urban setting with teal and orange tones for his present, and finally, a minimalist, refined look representing his current success. We incorporated seamless transitions and long takes to maintain the flow.
Impact
The video was praised for its authentic storytelling and fresh visual approach. Kobie’s fans resonated with the narrative, and the contrasting styles helped emphasize his growth, making the video stand out from typical music videos. It successfully portrayed him in a more refined and mature light.
